Can I get herpes from sharing a drink?

Sorry if this is a stupid question. My sister has genital herpes. I’m not sure if she’s had an outbreak recently. Her partner also has it so is there a possibility she has it in her mouth? I accidentally took a drink of her coffee without thinking right after she did. Google says it can live for up to 10 seconds. Not sure if I should be worried now. We’re not super close so I’d feel awkward asking her if she has a current outbreak.

You can only get it from an active outbreak. If she’s not currently having one you’re good. And yes what the other poster said- mouth herpes and genital are different, yes you can get it from oral sex but a genital outbreak is not contagious through the mouth.

You should be fine. Even if she has a cold sore on her mouth the virus is quite fragile and doesn’t survive that long on surfaces it’s mostly transmitted through directly touch and active sore. I have read you can’t catch it from a public toilet seat.
