Doctors recommend quarantining confirmed positive people away from those who have not tested positive because it reduces exposure. Less exposure can result in a milder or asymptomatic case if the other person does get it. 
Quarantining is effective and reasonable. 
A coworker’s wife had COVID back in March when testing was still limited in our state. They told her she wasn’t sick enough to be tested, but she felt like hell, had the horrible cough, etc. She quarantined in a second floor bedroom while her husband lived on the first floor for the 2+ weeks that she was sick. A couple of months later when they were finally able to get antibody tests, the tests confirmed that she had had COVID and he had not. They even tested him a second time to be sure it wasn’t a false negative.
Just because you live in the same space doesn’t necessarily mean you have it. Please quarantine and isolate the positive person for as long as the doctors recommend. I think it’s 10 days from symptom onset or positive test, but do confirm that with a medical professional.

Most likely you’ve been exposed to it as well but I would quarantine separately if possible to decrease your risk of getting it.
