What's that??

Question

My daughter's (18m) favorite phrase is "What's that?" points at something. She especially loves anything to do with bodies. Eyes, nose, belly, toes,...she then loves to show off her newfound knowledge to anyone who will listen.
   Yesterday she came into the bathroom with me and noticed my "downstairs hair"  "What's that??"
  I said pelvis, I don't want her getting confused about her body but am not really sure what to call that area that she may then repeat to random people.
  Any ideas?

I told both of my kids the right words. If people are bothered by the fact my kids at two knew the words vagina or penis thats their own issue not mine. If I don't make up words for other body parts why should I for the private area? Its a hold up for adults that we pass onto our children. Sex and body parts are nothing to be ashamed of and shouldn't be uncomfortable to discuss.  I want them to be comfortable talking about things and not having this weird "shame" attached to the words.

I tell my sons it’s my vulva because that’s what it is. And I said there’s a urethra and vagina there. It’s important all kids know all the anatomically correct terms for body parts. My 4 and 1 year old sons have not died with this information, I’m sure your daughter (who has a vagina and definitely needs to know the correct term) and any adult she might speak to will survive if they hear the words vulva and/or vagina.

My son went through a similar phase. He’s now 21 months and we just call it “pee-pee” whether it’s a boy or girl. He doesn’t need to know the technical terms yet

Vagina? I don’t understand why others have to try making it such a taboo thing. Kids should know their basic human anatomy. Heaven forbid something were to happen to her and she’s telling them her pelvis or whatever else name others try coming up with, and while in her mind she’s being as clear as day while to others what’s right in front of their face has been going under the radar if only children knew their basic human anatomy and weren’t so taboo about it.

As soon as they start asking, I tell them the correct term. My son knows he has a penis but he still prefers to call it a wee wee. When my niece started staring at him when I changed his diaper I told her what it was called and what she had. They are body parts and it’s nothing to be concerned about your child repeating to others.
