BF & pumping

i need advice from mom who are combining BF and pumping. pediatrician told me to put baby to BF and after that give him bottle of pumped milk (cause he didnt gane much weight). my question is: do you BF on one side and pump on the other, and then next time switch? i never did both, so im confused.
