Glucose Test ?

Question

is the glucose test MANDATORY !? i took it yesterday & just got a call back saying i need to retake it .
if it’s important for the baby i will do it but if not , i’m actually tired of doing so much testing . baby is due in 7 weeks & i did the tests for birth defects & he’s fine so i’m not really feeling having to take off work to go do another test if it’s not mandatory .

I would just take the test again. I have gestational diabetes.  It’s better to know and manage it for the rest of your pregnancy.  Or you could end up with a larger baby.  Also high sugars in us makes baby produce more insulin for their sugars and can cause lower blood sugar at birth because their insulin is still going.

Unmanaged gestational diabetes can be fatal to the baby come birth. It’s best to get an answer if they can’t get you to take the tests needed they’ll want you to track your food for everything you eat as well as test your sugars after each meal and when you wake up (fasting) trust me I wish I could have just taken the test but they had me go straight to finger pricks because I have insulin resistance and they have me on metformin so they wanted to see how it was working and if the dosage needed to be changed.

I was mad that they wanted to diagnose me with barely over levels, but after looking up the risks of going untreated, I happily check my sugars 5 times a day.

You don't have to but if you don't then you have to check your blood sugar daily as if you have gestational diabetes. I'd say its more worth it to do the test again than have to poke your finger 4 times a day to test blood sugar.

You are better off doing the test, because if GD is not properly managed it can cause problems. I would not say it’s mandatory but it is very highly advised you get the test

Its definitely optional and you can refuse it if you want to. I haven't done any of the typical testing they do during pregnancy this time around. Most of the tests are unnecessary.

They can’t force you to take it, but it would be foolish not to. Kinda an easy test to find out whether or not you have a condition that could potentially be devastating for  both you and your child. 🤷🏻‍♀️

My doctor hasn't done mine yet and I'm 2 weeks from my scheduled c section idk if I just fell through the cracks or what but I haven't had one this pregnancy.

That sucks. I had to take it twice as well, but because I am having twins. I would call and ask why they are having you take it again. If it’s because the first results were unsure or borderline, I would err on the side of caution and go again. Do you have paid time off you can use to go? I hated taking off of work but I work late so I mostly can schedule my appointments before work. It is gross though and a pain to wait around. I made sure my phone was well charged. Good luck!
