Cluster feeding?!

For the past 8 straight hours my two week old hasn’t been off the boob for more than 30 minutes at a time and then she screams until I put her back on. The past 2.5 hours I have only taken her off to change her. She has been awake over 12 straight hours. She’s maybe fallen asleep 5-10 minutes here or there but no more than an hour total. 
Is this normal?

Totally normal for a breastfed baby especially during a growth spurt. No one told me to expect that with my first and I was so confused and worried. Now with my second it’s been much easier because I knew what to expect. With breastfeeding I don’t think if it in terms of individual “feeds” anymore. When my baby cries, I offer the breast. Nine times out of ten it’s what he wanted. You can’t over feed a breastfed baby. It’s tough being pinned down all the time, especially with a toddler, but it gets better and will lessen up!! It goes off and on like this for a while though. It’s all normal.

My LO is 5 weeks old now, but she was cluster feeding at 3 weeks old. I could not get her off the boob for more than 10 minutes. It was stressful but I read that it’s normal. Your LO is “securing the bag” so to speak, building up your milk supply to support their growth spurt.☺️

I had the same thing happen around 2 weeks and pedi said it could be a growth spurt and it'd stop in a few days. Or it could be a supply thing. Or a little if both if they're going through a spurt and need more supply then your body will start making more for them. It only lasted a few days with my LO and got better. I just kept feeding on demand and drank water, took it easy.

This was the case with my son who is now three. He never grew out of it looked people told me he would. I had to literally stop breastfeeding around 1 because he was still up looking for my breast simolynoutnof habit/comfort. I saiid if things get this out of control with this baby, then I’ll really presss baby taking bottle because all of that breastfeeding depressed me! Seems like every one else baby ate for fifteen minutes on each side and was content!

Learning soothing techniques from The Happiest Baby on the Block (38min video on YOUTUBE), helped me. Cluster feeding although "normal" isnt sustainable and isnt necessary. For growth spurts baby might nurse longer or hit up both breasts but no need to cluster feed. And the more awake they are the more over stimulated and exhausted and crying they get. So learning to sooth was SOO helpful for me. Only ended up with three evenings of the "witching hour" and cluster feedings then it was gone with the soothing techniques.

I'm going through something similar with my 2.5 week old and have been wondering the same thing. I'm a FTM and not sure if it's normal or not. My little one sleeps maybe 10-20 min at a time and then starts crying. As soon as I pick her up she shows all the hunger signs and just wants to eat. I can't get anything done and feel like I spend all day and half the night feeding her!
