1 year old constipated?

Okay so my 1 year old just switched from formula to Lactaid whole milk and hes been waking up crying multiple times a night he hasnt been pooping as often and when he does he poops little balls except the other day he pooped a rock hard solid poop that he strained so hard to get out I had to help hold his legs so he could push. Do I put him back on formula? Idk what to do here. Do I try suppositories? Is he too little ? Is there a stool softener for babies ? Any foods I can incorporate to his diet instead of removing the milk ?
Can 1 year olds eat prunes ?

We give her pear and prune puree when this happens. It helps but I know this happens when she doesn't drink enough water which is a lot of the time. Especially at daycare she never drinks enough water..

We had the same thing happen switch to unsweetened almond milk and she cleaned right up and loves it.

We had issues with our guy too. He would actually start crying when he tried to poop. Ugh, I hated it and felt helpless! After his 1 year checkup my pediatrician said not to give any more than 12oz of milk a day. She said she’s not sure why parents think babies need so much milk, but max out at 12. We give about 6oz of milk and he has a 4oz yogurt for his daily intake. He also gets a prune or prune mix pouch everyday, and that’s really helped too. Lastly, I found that A2 milk worked wonders for him. Apparently it’s easier to digest? I read a bit about it and knew he didn’t have a dairy allergy since he had been on milk based formula, but thought maybe the whole milk was causing issues. Between the A2 milk, reduction in milk, and prunes...he’s smooth sailing now! ⛵️ It can be a little trial and error, but hang in there, and know that these things usually works themselves out in time. I just posted this on a different thread, but my daughter has chronic constipation which we weren’t able to control with diet. She’s on a daily dose of MiraLax. It’s safe for babies and toddlers to take occasionally or on a daily basis. We give our 13-month old half an adult dose every day.

Prune puree mixed with oatmeal, pears. If that doesn't work, I found a smoothie recipe online that wound up helping my LO a lot. The next day his constipation was gone after giving him this. I used baby spinach instead of zucchini and skipped the oil/avocado cuz I didnt have any at the time.

When our son started solids I didn't realize bananas could bind you up. Poor guy strained so hard a few days. I started to balance it with other foods. If he got banana he would also get prune puree. I also have baby apple juice on stand by if it's ever needed to help poop. I'd try water, some juice and prune puree. That should help him out.

When we transitioned from formula to whole milk my dude got a bit constipated too and I would just put some of the dark Karo syrup in the bottle with the milk. Not a lot but enough to make the milk have a tint. Once he got past the constipation stage he was fine! 
It could just be the milk too though.
