I see a lot of posts on here of people who are having scheduled inductions and wondering what the reasons are? A normal pregnancy can be up to 42 weeks. Is it just complications?

I’m getting induced at 37 weeks because I’m carrying twins (Di/Di) and my OB won’t let a twin pregnancy go past the 37th week.

I’ve got an induction planned for 39 weeks. I was 40 weeks with my son when I was induced. I have elevated/high blood pressure (not pregnancy related but it does get worse during pregnancy) and if it goes higher (right now it averages around 135-145/80s) they’ll induce earlier. I could have said let’s wait until 40 weeks to induce but with my son it was around 40 weeks that my blood pressure skyrocketed so I’m taking the option of an elective induction. There are other personal reasons like childcare for my first that make me want to be induced early but a big one is my BP issues.

I had to be induced my first pregnancy at 39 weeks due to suspected IUGR but baby came out a healthy 6.9lbs. Induction was such a miserable experience for me lol. I’m actually looking forward to being able to go into spontaneous labor on my own this time around, even if that means I have to go a little past my due date!

Are you in the UK, Alice? A lot of the ladies on this app are in America where there seems to be a lot more intervention, and often earlier than we are used to in the UK. I think that's the main reason we read about early induction a lot more than we hear about/feel is normal in the UK.

My previous 3 babies all came at 38 weeks but I’ve scheduled an induction at 39+2 because if she doesn’t come on her own, I’d like to be assured that I have childcare for my other kids. My boyfriend is a trucker and gone 14hours a day M-F and all my family/trusted friends are in other states at least 4 hours away. My last 2 babies were out within an hour and a half of my water breaking and my last one I didn’t even have contractions until my water broke so I’m trying to be prepared. I do have family coming to visit next weekend and had my boyfriend take off work for my 38th week just in case because he can’t just call in without a replacement. Then my mom will be here the following week. Just trying to cover all my bases.

I am being induced for blood pressure i have GH & Bleeding with my last pregnancy my placenta detached and with the bleeding I’m having now they don’t want to take any chances

My next appointment they’ll most likely confirm if they’re doing it if he doesn’t come by that because he’s measuring big. 3 weeks ago he was already 5lb4oz so they’re worried he could break his collarbone during birth because he’s big.

I’m in the US and can’t believe how many are allowed to have non medically necessary inductions early, my dr with my first and my dr for this baby both wait until 41 weeks. There is some new evidence from a study published in 2019 showing a slight increased risk of still birth after 41 weeks compared to 37 to 41 weeks.

I’m being induced early due to fluid build up in my kidneys. I am also high risk due to epilepsy. (in US)

I’m being induced on 12/7 due to gestational diabetes. That puts me at 39+2. My doctor doesn’t like to do much sooner inductions than that because evidence doesn’t show it actually helps the baby unless there is another issue such as preeclampsia or low fluid or IUGR.
