Breastfeeding and 🍷??

I'm so confused on this. I want to enjoy atleast a glass or 2 after baby but im confused how it all works. It says it takes 2 hours for 1 glass so about 4 hours for 2. What if baby gets hungry and i don't feel comfortable nursing? Is this why people pump during the day and freeze milk perhaps for later? I know to nurse before drinking. But I don't want to be a bad parent as well.

If you aren’t feeling the effects of the alcohol it is safe to nurse baby. Both my IBCLC and pediatrician told me that.

The general rule of thumb is whatever you feel the baby will feel. If you have a glass and feel fine, you are all set to feed your baby. So go pour yourself a glass mama, you deserve it!

It has actually been proven by several studies that you can still breastfeed as long as you can drive! Especially if you do wait after a drink, and aren’t abusing alcohol, it should be okay. So it is totally up to your comfort level! If it’s a night you plan on drinking, you can always have a back up bag or a few bags, stored to feed babe if you feel uncomfortable breastfeeding or wanted to drink more than one or two drinks.

If you can drive, you can nurse. There is also no need to pump and dump. There are studies that have been done that show it is such a negligible amount of alcohol that gets into the milk. Also, for example, for my SIL’s bachelorette party I drank off and on the entire day, pumped when I needed to, sent the milk with her to daycare 2 days later. She was fine! You can also mix it with “non-alcohol” if it makes you feel better. I’m almost to 12 months breastfeeding!

If you’re fine to drive, you are fine to feed baby. Very minimal amounts will transfer through milk. I don’t drink hardly at all but if I do., I usually wait until baby is down for the night or feed baby and then have a drink.
