Masturbating on my period?

Hey y’all, so I’m a little over halfway thru my period (wasn’t bleeding, mostly spotting) and decided to masturbate in the shower (only external stimulation, no penetrating) and like 15-20 mins later I noticed I was bleeding a lot more. Is this normal? Has this ever happened to anyone else? I’m 21 and I’ve never masturbated on my period before so I’m a little anxious
