We want to get the Newton mattress and the owlet, should we get both?

I want to be as safe as possible but they are both very expensive. Has anyone used either and can help us. We feel like the owlet would settle any worries but sometimes technology isn’t perfect. Help!! Thank you 😊

I personally would only get the owlet. As others have said, the newton mattress is kind of a ripoff since all baby mattresses are made for babies and breathable. Owlet offers peace of mind if you develop PPA, and offers financial plans to afford it. It is not a medical device, though!!! and often people seem to discontinue use because they aren’t educated on the product enough beforehand (very understandable!) The pros certainly outweigh the cons in my opinion because the cons can be avoided in some cases! (as with any electronic device, it will mess up sometimes.) 
My daughter was in the PICU & then NICU for her first 40 days as a full term bean. I didn’t get the owlet for my shower and decided it was something I could live without... until I became dependent on the continuous monitoring they do in the NICU. I knew with my already anxious personality, that I wouldn’t be able to sleep without some kind of option to check her heartrate, and decided to make the purchase. I make sure to change which foot it’s on every use, and wash when needed according to the instructions. And I read up on how it worked obsessively. We have never encountered a major problem! A false alarm is expected every once an a while, usually if her sock just isn’t on right. But the alarms have different colors (yellow for sock issue; blue for actual baby issue) and I disabled the sound (lullaby) for false ones. We currently only use it for night time sleep, whereas in the beginning, I used it for every nap & occasionally when she was in her swing! 
 These expensive decisions are HARD! Especially when we’re told by so many others what is best. Know that the owlet is not essential at all, nor is an overly expensive mattress.💛 Whatever you decide, just make sure to read up on both and maybe watch some actual customer reviews on youtube!! That’s how I decided on the owlet & certain baby gear items! Wishing you the best of luck with decision making & the rest of your pregnancy journey!!!

I feel like the mattress is a total rip off to be honest lol infant mattress’s in general are completely breathable. I put my nose right up in it and could breath totally fine in the mattress that we bought from target for a fraction of the cost of the Newton! We had the owlet and it did really give peace of mind! But after the first 6 weeks of use It start to have reoccurring false alarms which were always scary and made me panic for essentially no reason. We ended up just not using it when my son was 8 weeks. I’m not planning on using it with my second 🤷🏼‍♀️ just my two cents!

I’d say just get the owlet. I had it with my first baby and I honestly loved it. As for the Newton mattress, I think that it’s not really worth it. Most baby mattresses are safe enough for babies considering they are made for babies but definitely do your research on which mattresses to stay away from and read reviews !! I bought the nook pebble baby mattress brand new on mercari for half the price it retailed for.

I’m curious about everyone saying all crib mattresses are breathable, we’ve owned 3 different kinds and I don’t think any are breathable like our Newton is. I got really worried bc my second started flipping over early and it really gave me peace of mind. It’s not just a “breathable” material, the design is such there’s little gaps everywhere. Living in a warmer climate it also helped her not get as sweaty.

We don’t do cribs, so i can’t comment on the mattress, but as a two time NICU mom, I do use the Owlet. Nothing like being taken off allllll the monitors and wondering if your baby is breathing 😅

We actually do have the Newton for my son. I think I found it on sale - I personally love it. I can smash my face right into it and still breathe, plus you can take off the outer layer and wash it in the washing machine. My parents bought a standard crib mattress (unsure of the brand) for when we visited their house and I definitely couldn’t breathe through it. We never had the owlet, but I did read a lot of reviews about false alarms.

Neither for me the mattress seems like a money grab to me $300 for a crib mattress.. no most crib mattresses are breathable. the owlet has to many false alarms, burns on babies feet, hacking..  my friend has a nice baby They told her to not use it.🤷🏽‍♀️ so both are no goes to me.

Try shopping second hand for these items! This is my second baby and this time around I’ve gotten so many things for cheap because parents sell them as their babies outgrow them. I was able to get a delta crib In near perfect condition AND a Newton mattress for $100!! For BOTH items !!!  I’ve been keeping track of the items I’ve purchased for baby and how much I paid vs retail price

We had the Owlet for our first and we loved it! We plan on using it again! I’m gonna have to look up the Newton mattress now!
