Cervix thin but not dilated? 38+1

Got checked at dr yesterday and he said he can feel baby’s head and my cervix is thin, but completely closed. What does this mean in terms of if my body is getting ready for labor soon or not? What was your experience I’d you also went through this?

First time mommas usually efface first then dialate.... moms that have had babies before usually dialate then efface....at the end of the day it usually doesn’t mean too much because you could be 0 this morning and in labor in the evening . I was 4cm dialate for 2 weeks before i went into labor.

I was 0cm dilated and barely effaced when my water broke at 40+2. My sister in law was at 3cm for weeks. Dilation and effacement is not an indicator of when labor is coming.

Did he/she say at what percent your effaced ? You have your cervix then the dilation of birth canal. So your cervix can be thinning out let’s say maybe 50 percent but you don’t have any dilation of birth canal or vice versus you can not be effaced as much but be dilated 3cm. I’d say either way talk to your dr
