Is it okay to go to parties once in a while during a relationship?

I was talking with my bf, and he told me I’m not allowed to go to parties at all. Mind you I haven’t partied since high school, and I stopped so he wouldn’t feel uncomfortable.   Up to recently we had a discussion on it again and I told him, I missed going to parties with my close female friends and he told me I still wasn’t allowed. I told him he has every right to come with me, but he doesn’t like social situations so he said he doesn’t want to. So now I’m unable to go to parties once in a while even if I’m going with my close female friends. I told him this was controlling and he refuses to believe so. What do you guys think?

He told you that you’re “not allowed” to go to parties? That controlling, abusive asshole needs a reality check. He doesn’t get to “allow” you to do anything. If my husband ever told me I wasn’t “allowed” to go to a party or whatever, I’d laugh in his face and hand him divorce papers.

first of all any guy who tries to dictate what you can and can’t do isn’t someone you should be with. His behavior is controlling and a blaring red flag for further abusive/controlling behavior. If I were you I’d run.

Think hard about this: does he own you? Are you his property? Is any of this bullshit he’s saying to you on a piece of paper in writing with signatures? If not, do as you please but be respectful about it.
