Did drs make a mistake about me having gd?
This is my 3rd baby, I didn’t have it with my other two but I am very high risk bc of my family history and bc I’m overweight this time. When I went for my 8 week apt they had me do a glucose test. I hadn’t slept the night before, had a bowl of cereal at 9 am and left right after for several dr appts that day and wasn’t able to have anything to drink at all. Glucose test (1hr) was done at 4pm and I think but can’t remember that they gave me more to drink than my previous pregnancies. My number came back at 200 and they considered that my fasting number since it had been so many hours since I had anything to eat/drink. They had me start taking my glucose levels at home for the next 2 weeks. Fasting numbers are under 94, 1hr after meal are under 120. Not once has any number been higher than that. They scheduled me with the high risk dr. When I saw her she told me without a doubt in her mind that not only do I have severe gd, but that based on my number (200) that I also developed diabetes prior to my pregnancy. They told me I’m now also high risk for preeclampsia and had me meet with another specialist that told me about a study they’re doing and that starting at 12 weeks I have to take a daily baby aspirin but that if my a1c came back high which they’re expecting it to that I might have to take 2 baby aspirins per day. When I questioned them and asked them why my blood sugars at home are fine they said it’s bc I’m being careful and diet controlled (diet is the same as before I got pregnant just drinking more water) as of right now but they are looking into medications to put me on once they get all my bloodwork back. I also asked if there was a correlation between blood sugars and sleep deprivation (I get 3 hrs of interrupted sleep per night if I’m lucky) and they said absolutely not. I’ve been reading nothing but the opposite and my mothers endocrinologist confirmed and showed me many studies where there is a direct link. Well I literally just got an email with my a1c at 4:15am. It’s a 5 with my avg glucose at 97. I don’t know what to think about all of this. The doctor is clearly wrong about a lot of it but do I still have gd? Could that one test have been a fluke? Should I ask for a repeat?
