Delivery gown?

There is a huge sale on some delivery gowns. A family member wanted to buy that as a birthday gift (we don’t do big huge gifts). She was suggesting I would need 2. Would I need 2? Did you use yours? Did your hospital allow it (i know if it is surgery you can’t)? I would rather not be super uncomfortable in the hospital gown if I can buy something cheap.

I was in the hospital for 3 days when I gave birth and I just used the hospital gown provided. They’re free. Say you spend $30 on a delivery gown. Are you going to reuse it or throw it away? It’s going to get soiled with bodily fluids. It’s up to you. But it’s a waste for me.

Personally I wouldn't invest in a gown specifically to deliver in. You'll be a bloody sweaty mess and want to shower soon after and put on clean clothes. Perhaps save it for after you've delivered and showered. For my two previous deliveries I've just worn a sports bra.

I bought my own gowns because last time the hospital gave me a gown it was full of someone's blood. didnt get washed. was so gross.

I delivered in the hospital gown then showered a couple hours later and put on the cute, breastfeeding friendly gown I had brought. Very comfortable to wear and I felt comfortable with people seeing me in it while visiting ( not that that’s a consideration this time around with Covid 😆)

Completely unnecessary. What they have at the hospital is not uncomfortable. I brought my own clothes to change into (nursing friendly) and lived in that.

The benefit of these gowns is that they have the same medical access points as the hospital gowns so staff aren't bringing up that they may need to cut your clothes if you don't change. It's okay to want to not wear the hospital gowns.  I live in a medium sized US capitol city and our hospitals don't require birthing people to wear the hospital owned gowns unless they are in surgery. OP wasn't asking if they are necessary, they were asking if you have done this and if they are allowed at your hospital.

I totally thought they were silly or extravagant the first time I gave birth. Live and learn I guess! I bought a gownies one and a nylon halter dress type one this time because I am all about nonverbal signals for me and my partner that we are fine and not in danger. We do not like hospitals (who does?). I'm wearing them now at 34 weeks so they won't be stiff or new in the hospital. Of course u don't need them, u don't need a satin pillowcase either but u might love protecting your curls even in the hospital, right?  I say whether u get 0, 1, or 2 it's the right decision for u.

Legit, I stayed mostly naked (wore a sports bra) through labor. Then when I went for an emergency c section that came off. I bought a robe for post delivery but didn’t even wear it until we took pictures in the hospital. Wouldn’t say it was worth it, but I wore it a lot while home with baby because it was an easy thing to move to breast feed.

I got a gown to wear after delivery that was comfy and easy for me to clip down and breastfeed.
