Should I give my kids chores if I’m a stay at home mom?

Question

Should I give my kids chores (besides tidying their rooms) once they’re older if I’m a stay at home Mom? 
I don’t want them to see me doing nothing while they mow the lawn, do the dishes, cleaning the bathrooms etc... 
do stay at home moms usually assign chores? I want them to learn responsibility but I also feel that should be mainly my thing since I don’t work and my husband does.

Surely you won’t have “nothing” to do if they have a few chores around the house? You don’t have to give them allllll the household chores, lol. Just a couple chores each to teach responsibility and help them grown into responsible adults.

My MIL didn’t raise her kids to do chores and it SHOWS with my husband. I love him to death he’s such a good husband and father, but I basically felt like his mom for a short phase until he got the hang of it. 🤦🏻‍♀️ I’m glad my parents enforced chores. By no means did I take care of the whole house. But I cleaned my room, helped clean the bathrooms, did my own dishes, set the table, take out trash, etc. just things that everyone should contribute to if you’re living in a household, so why not teach it at a young age. Obviously start out small! But as they get older and older I think it’s great to do chores. And being a stay at home mom doesn’t change that at all in my opinion. Just because you’re a SAHM doesn’t make you everyone’s maid 💞💞

I think every kid should have a few age appropriate chores. It’s good to learn responsibility and how to care for yourself.
I grew up on a farm so had lots of responsibility that way. My son is 2.5, he checks the chickens every day with me and collects his eggs. He helps with some chores (he’s not really doing them but helps me vacuum, do the laundry etc.) 
When he’s older he will help me with chores then get age appropriate ones of his own. 
I want my son to learn to care for himself. Cooking, baking, cleaning - I don’t want him to think he needs a woman to take care of him.
Best thing my mother in law did with her boys when they got older was have them do dinner once a week. Pick the recipe, Make the grocery list, help shop, make the dinner for the family. My husband now loves to cook and it’s really awesome lol.   
On the flip side I knew a boy who his mother did everything, dished his plate until he moved out, absolutely coddled him. he called my dad and asked if you butter toast before or after it goes in the toaster 🤷🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️ I’m a firm believer in chores lol

It helps them out in the long run and teaches them to be a functioning adult that's not a slob lol they don't have to do all the chores like someone else said just some here and there, you can make a chart for weekly chores and reward them at the end of the week or make their favorite dish for dinner stuff like that. I know people who had their mother do all of the household chores growing up, then when they moved on their own they had no idea how to do anything such as chores or even cooking.

I think everyone lives in the home, and should share in taking care of it together. As a mom, there’s no way kids could take over your full job, but having some chores or helping out on certain days teaches them how to do those things for themselves and teaches responsibility.

I didn’t appreciate chores as a kid, but I did once I moved out. I had a few roommates and coworkers who had obviously never done dishes, swept, mopped, cleaned a bathroom, etc in their entire lives.

Honestly my parents made me do chores from doing my own laundry, dishes, cleaning the house etc at like 9 years old. I’m so grateful for it because it’s made me a super independent person. Like I’ll see kids in high school and even in college asking for their parents help and knowing how to do simple tasks such as picking college classes or learning how to clean a chicken and it’s just sad. So yes I think it’s a great idea

No matter what, your family is a team and everyone should pitch in. It also teaches respect, discipline, and good habits they will need in the future.

IMO being a stay at home wife/ mother means you’re main priority is to take care of the children. Giving them a few chores is a great way to teach responsibility, accountability, and general life skills. 
I’m sure there’s lots of housework at any home for everyone to have a bit to participate in
