Sore throat in toddlers

My son is 2 hardly the kid to become sick but I’m thinking he has a sore throat not everytime he eats but often he will get sudden pain and he will hold his head. Is this a sign of a sore throat? He has no other symptoms no cold or anything.

His mouth is so tiny so I can’t see his tonsils.

And yes I’m making a doctors appointment I just would like to know what symptoms I should watch out for if it’s a sore throat
