Can we talk carseats?!

Question

I’m going to be a first time mom and know NOTHING about car seats. I know babies need different things at different stages, but why are there SO many options?
Do I need an all in one? Or should I get something like a 2 in 1? Would I need a booster seat later? What’s more cost effective overall? I’m so lost 😂

We used the click connect for our infant seat, continue to use the stroller. And once she was around one we switched to the graco extend to fit which will fit her through her booster seat stage so we won’t have to buy another one.

I’m about to be a FTM too, and I ended up getting this carseat. It’s extremely safe from the reviews, and that’s obviously the main concern, but it also will fit her through stages. I liked the idea of getting something that will grow with her, that way I’m not constantly having to rebuy a seat throughout all of her spurts. I will be buying the Mockingbird stroller system with the bassinet attachment for infancy, that way I can eliminate the need for an infant car seat.

This is our infant car seat and I love it! I highly recommend an infant seat before a convertible car seat. You can technically use a convertible right off the bat, but infant seats come out of the car and click into strollers. When my son was born we lived in a third floor walk up, so I did a lot of research on light car seats where safety wasn’t compromised. This was the winner! I will also add our convertible car seat!

We love our chicco infant carrier and have used it with both kids. Our son was in it for a year but our daughter is much, much longer (95%ile) and will likely have to transition out by 6mo, which really bums me out since that will be the coldest time of year.

I recommend a infant seat and then a convertible seat. Infsnt seat makes life easy in the early stages. We went with maxi cosi infant seat (can't remember which model) and maxi cosi magellan max pur for convertible.

Okay, so you don’t actually *need* an infant car seat (the kind with the handle). They just make things a little easier, because you can carry baby to/from the car in it and click it into a stroller. But you can totally skip it and go straight to a convertible seat. Look for one with a high rear facing weight/height limit. Convertible seats will all take your kid to like 5 years old, possibly older if they convert to a booster.

We switched to this when my son was older and love it. It will grow with the child and break all the way down to a booster seat, so you’re never buying a new seat 🙌🏼

We used the travel system until 10 months. Then moved to the evenflo everystage dlx (convertible car seat). The travel system worked really well for us, especially because baby was born in the winter. We had an extra car seat base for my husband’s car. The convertible car seat will last for a while as it works rear facing and forward facing, and converts to a booster seat
