“Quarantine Pregnancy”: Insult or Not???
So, my husband started a new job this year. We had a (socially distanced, safe, etc) company Holiday party.
At the party, one of the secretaries who I was meeting for the first time and new I was pregnant, said to me “Is it a “quarantine baby”?” She is quite young, like 20 and I am just not sure if it is the ‘new thing’ right now to ask this instead of the usual “was it planned” question. Or, really, what do I make of a comment/question like this? I mean, yes, this baby was conceived “during quarantine” in that it was this year when many people have had to quarantine individually since the big nation wide lockdowns (I am in the U.S. and we haven’t gone back into a full nationwide lockdown again even though other countries have) so in that sense isn’t any baby born or conceived right now considered a ‘quarantine baby’?
We have been trying for a while and earlier this year I actually had a miscarriage. So we have been very excited that I was able to get pregnant again this year and can’t wait to have a baby girl in May!
Maybe it is just hormones or other emotions clouding my judgement here, but I really don’t know what to make of it! It’s probably nothing at all! I just was surprised by it. She didn’t seem to be being rude, but then people who ask you “was it planned?” and other generally personal questions aren’t usually trying to be rude either. Just nosy.
