If someone says your house looks "lived in"?

Is that an insult?  What does that mean?

I wouldn’t say it’s necessarily a compliment. Not really an insult either unless it’s the way someone said it. To me it would mean it’s not staged like you’re trying to sell your house. Theirs signs of day to day use. Unmade beds, some dishes in the sink, mail out, floors might need to be vacuumed or cleaned, blankets on the couch, kids or dog toys out, etc. just literally lived in 🤷🏻‍♀️😂

I would take it as, your house is messy and unclean
Anytime I have heard people refer to themselves as having a house that is lived in is when I see friends on social media putting up memes because they are tired of being called out on being sloppy, lazy, unclean, etc...
And I know personally from seeing their homes that they could use a clean! 
So that’s my take on it

I take it as a compliment, unless it was said in a mean tone. To me it means that your house is functional and comfortable  you actually use the spaces you live in, and aren’t afraid to show it. I would way rather that than putting on a show of a spotless house whenever guests come over

I take it as just that they can tell someone lives there, unless they're clearly being mean. 
I've had people say it about my house, they said it was that you can tell which couch is the dog's favorite because he drags his blanket up there to sleep all the time, or because I leave my stand mixer out on the counter rather than storing it in a closet or cupboard - I use it too often to put it away. Different people have different standards. I prefer my house be comfortable for us to use over looking magazine ready.

I take it as..the condition of my home is a realistic one not the overly clean ones on social media/magazines etc. my home is not a showroom.
This sign to me just makes it aware that my family LIVES in the home. Play, make memories, makes messes, everyone’s stuff here and there. Mess that I am grateful for, so leave if it bothers you lol ♥️

It really does depend on how they put it, like my house personally is lived in, ya know there’s some dishes in my sink, my floors need to be cleaned, my bathrooms could use a wipe down but it’s not what I consider dirty, gross or anything like that. Where as I know someone who would call their house lived in but they have fruit flies and garbage everywhere, and I think that’s disgusting. As long as your house is decent I wouldn’t worry. I personally am not going to spend every hour cleaning my house just to avoid judgement. As long as my house is reasonably tidy I’m happy.
