Are hand bruises normal for pole dancing?

I just got my pole a few days ago and had fun test swinging on it. Today my palms hurt and I’m wondering if hand bruises are normal?

I did pole dancing for awhile and it hurt my hands too. I think it’s just from constantly gripping it. The tops of my feet bruised though!!
