Can you eat?!

Has anyone been told to avoid Caesar salad dressing while pregnant? It sounds so yummy but I heard to avoid it! Do you eat it?

People say not to have homemade dressing because it typically is made with raw eggs, which are common to carry Salmonella. That’s why you hear people say to avoid Caeser dressing BUT if you’re doing bottled from a store- it’s usually always pasteurized so it’s just fine to eat.

I make my own homemade with pasteurized egg beaters so it’s not a problem to eat. What you buy at the grocery store is pasteurized as well so totally fine to eat. Most restaurants will have an asterisks next to their Caesar salad if they make their own dressing and it’s made with raw eggs, or just ask your waiter. But generally it’s fine to eat in most settings because it’ll be pasteurized.

i think the risk is if it’s made with raw eggs or unpasteurized so if eating out i would ask them about it but mostly anything they sell in a bottle or grocery stores dressings are fine. most restaurant probably don’t have raw eggs or unpasteurized either unless they make it themselves

There's egg in the dressing, but you're fine - you'd have to eat it freshly prepared at someone's home to find one that actually had raw egg in it. It's not legal to sell unpasteurized.

I heard this in my first pregnancy and avoided it the entire time. I have asked a prenatal nutritionist about it and she said as long as its pasteurized its okay
