We are starting the Ferber method tonight....

stephanie

My son has incredibly poor sleeping habits so I have made the decision to start sleep training. He is six months old. I will still hold him and nurse him for naps (he is a contact napper) but after our bedtime routine I will place him in the pack n play in my bedroom and begin the hardest decision of my life. I feel incredibly guilty and we haven’t even started yet! Lol I know this is for the best for him, myself, boyfriend and relationships. I plan on starting very gentle with 3 minutes of waiting and 2 minutes of check in, then progress to 5 minutes of waiting, 2 minutes of check in, 8 minutes and so on. I will go in incriminates of three and check in times will stay at two minutes. I hope this works. I will try for a week and if it isn’t working we will go back to bed sharing and me nursing/ rocking him to sleep for a week and then Ferber the following week.

I will have the room at a comfortable temperature, the lights off (except the nightlight) and white noise on. He will be in his sleep sack since he rolls around.

Please share any tips or tricks you have to make this easier. My heart already hurts and we haven’t even started lol

I probably won’t sleep tonight out of pure guilt and anxiety.

This is such a huge change considering we sleep side by side in my bed and anytime he wakes up I ever use my boob as a pacifier or nurse him back to sleep (he refuses a pacifier).

OH and we are also starting to introduce formula bottles since he is EBF. and it isn’t going very well LOL he gets a bottle of formula with all his meals (he eats twice a day-purées) I will continue to nurse in the Morning and evening and slowly try to wean him down.
