Any other bilingual mamas here ?

Im trying to raise my June babe bilingual in Spanish and English . So far I'm the one that talks to him in spanish while the hubby talks to him in english only . Well little one is taking a little to talk in any language.  We just came back from his 18 month check up and Dr said he was supposed to be saying at least 10 words 😭 he only says 4-6 . Dr is not concerned about about it because the bilingualism but I'm kinda of concern 😭😭😭 Dr says if by his next appointment he's not saying at least 50 words he's going to recommend speech therapy. Any experience on this ???

We speak to our son in English and Spanish and our pediatrician said it’s normal for them to fall behind in speech because 2 languages can be confusing to them.

Not bilingual, but my June baby doesn’t say much either. Our ped said the same thing at his appointment. We did get “all done” verbally and with sign language the other day. I think we scared him we got so excited about it 🤣. My 4 year old didn’t say much until after she turned 2. My oldest has always been in speech therapy as she’s globally delayed so we have tons of tools that we have been using on our own. Where we live, speech language services are virtual due to covid and I’m not interested in virtual therapy sessions. It’s very clear my little guy understands a lot, he doesn’t have any hearing loss that could be causing a speech delay, and I’m not overly concerned at the moment. We sing a lot of songs, talk about things we are doing, practice sign language (he has zero interest in signing but my 4 year old caught onto it at 8 months), read books, practice with puzzles/Mr. Potato head/dolls/etc. My 4 year old went from barely saying anything at 2, to speaking 2-3 word sentences very clearly by 2.5. Her preschool teacher also commented on how clear she speaks and how she has a wide variety of words for a kid her age. I think my son will be the same way. Try not to stress! I think if your son shows good progress before his next appointment your Ped will hopefully back off on the speech referral...but speech is actually fun for them and basically play time. My oldest LOVED her speech therapy time because she got to play with toys we didn’t have at home. She will be going back to speech when covid isn’t such a threat.

We speak English and Portuguese to our babe! He seems my mom almost everyday and she’s 100% Portuguese with him. So I’d say it’s a good 50/50 in our household. He says a good amount of words, the pediatrician didn’t seem concerned so I’m not gonna stress too much about it.

German and English here. He didn't speak much but blubbered a lot. Well, introduced TV songs at 13 months. Now he knows atleast 18 letters/sounds of the alphabet,  sounds of animals, 3 colours, 4 numbers, apple.  He cant say mom, dad, and the likes because honestly,   we are humans, we cant repeat words that much for him to be now know them. A study showed a child has to hear a word 500 times before they can say it. So if you speak 2 languages,  obviously they will not hear words that much. But i can say songs helped because they repeat the same old alphabets, animals, colours, shapes and numbers. I would say expose him to those if you feel the pressure to have baby learn the 50 words by the next appointment.  Lol.

We speak English and Bengali and Hindi . (it’s a language spoken in one of the states India ) he understands Bengali and English and has started using 1-2 English words but understands all 3 language @ 19 months .

We do English and Spanish here! 
But my son doesn’t say any words so his dr told us to speak in only one language so he won’t be confused. We chose Spanish since he’s around my parents most of the time. He’ll learn English one he starts going to daycare.
He understands everything and points and babbles, yells and growls, but no words yet 😭 he’s said mama only.
