Wtf do you feed a toddler?!

My 1 year made his self throw up cause he didn’t want what I was feeding him. It was one of those Gerber meals that come with veggies meat and potatoes. They aren’t the most appetizing, but he used to love them. I find myself struggling a lot with what to feed him. I want him to have a well rounded meal. Any ideas?

My daughter eats everything we eat. She isn’t picky with anything. She did baby food for about a month & then we went straight into baby led weaning. It has been the easiest thing.

We also had a very short baby food phase and then just started feeding our daughter whatever we were eating. We’re kind of foodies and we don’t want her to be the kid who only eats chicken nuggets or Mac and Cheese. She’s always done great, but recently she’s become very picky. She only wants fruit. I hope it’s a phase. What has worked for us is mixing in a little of the food she wants with what we want her to eat, even if it doesn’t look very appetizing to us. For example, she refused to eat the chicken we made the other night until we mixed in some pineapple. We’ve also put cottage cheese in her potatoes and hid veggies in her pasta.

Most toddlers do go through a picky phase. Trying to just keep offering foods is frustrating but the best thing for them. It can take 15-20 attempts for kids to accept new foods so just give a small amount of something and model yourself eating it. We give him what we are eating typically but so far he has not been very picky which is just lucky for us. He loves toast , peanut butter, cheese, hummus, many fruits (banana, blueberry, avocado, cuties, etc), steamed broccoli crowns (not the stems... I get to eat those), potatoes, rice, most all meats but especially salmon, plain whole milk yogurt, steel cut oatmeal. He normally tries our other veggies like green beans or asparagus but that is more hit and Miss for him. We normally try to save him some of our dinner for a lunch for the next day. And then one of his snacks is usually a hodgepodge of items he likes. He likes muffins that I make or I make him some quinoa broccoli bites. We normally keep homemade muffins, pancakes, and the broccoli bites in the freezer and just defrost one at a time for him. We also make him bean and cheese quesadillas sometimes. I said my LO is not picky but he will not eat eggs or any sort of noodle yet. I assume he will go through a noodle phase at some point.

Pizza, spaghetti, chicken, broccoli, crackers, cereal, oranges, hamburger meat, yogurt, literally anything that isn’t super hard to eat! I’d do away with the baby food and cook real meals.

At that age, whatever you're eating! No need to buy 'baby food', his tastebuds have developed and he probably just finds it a bit bland now x

My child is picky but she just eats whatever we eat usually. She loves the fruit and/or veggie purées in pouches. It’s the only way I can get her to touch a vegetable. 😅
But I definitely recommend dropping most of the “baby” food. My girl refused those prepackaged toddler/baby meals.

If you are like me and hate meal planning I would highly recommend we use an app called MealLime to help us plan our weekly meals. It is really awesome and helps us eat a well rounded diet effortlessly. I highly recommend checking it out. There is a free or paid version (it's $50 for the year). I struggled with eating a well rounded diet, I hated and don't have time to meal plan and compile a grocery list. If this sounds like you, seriously check it out! My kiddos eats what we do and he generally enjoys it. He does go through hungry and not hungry phases now but if he eats at least 1 good meal a day I'm happy.

Mines pretty picky too. Only vegetable she will eat is corn. She will eat pretty much all meats, won’t eat potatoes or any type of potatoes. We give her what we eat and I make sure to have at least one thing on her plate I KNOW she’ll eat. She has a belly on her so I know she’s not starving. Pediatrician said being picky is a stage. Hopefully she’ll get better as she gets older.

Right from the start at 6/7 months I feed my kids a mix of purées and whatever we are eating. By this age purées are only for snacks and the food is whatever we are eating for dinner.
