Baby shower before baby is born or after?

I have always wanted to have my baby shower before baby comes however my family is pushing for after so everyone can meet them baby. Covid aside what do you all prefer?

Seriously do it before. After is awful. My baby shower with my family was before, it was wonderful. I had time to clean and wash everything and get it set up, it was great. 
My very manipulative SIL was in charge of the pathetic excuse of a shower for my husband’s side.. she refused to do it before because of ridiculous personal reasons (everything always had to be about her). It ended up being a few weeks after my son was born, and let me tell you, it was awful. Everyone will only want to touch and hold your baby, you’ll barely get to see him/her, and no one will care about you. They might ask you how you’re feeling or offer some unsolicited advice, but they don’t actually care. 
I was breastfeeding and my son needed to eat super often still and people (mostly the awful SIL) would just bounce him around to try to soothe his crying and wouldn’t give him back to me so I could just feed and take care of my own baby. It was awful. I felt like he was neglected and manhandled and just passed around and uncomfortable the whole time and we were only there a couple hours. Then bringing stuff home, it took a long time to be able to go through it and wash and clean stuff because it was so difficult just to sleep and eat and feed and shower. 
If people are concerned about what size to get you, most babies are pretty small and newborn is great. Gift receipts exist for a reason though. As far as diapers and clothes if they’re really not sure, start with size 1 diapers, you’ll need plenty and you’ll definitely use them. 0-3 months clothes are great for larger babies that are born around 8-9lbs. 
For your sake push to have it before. After baby comes yes you’ll want people to meet him/her, but on your own terms and in your own environment will be easiest. You’ll want to get as much bonding and nurturing time in as you can. They’re only tiny and sleep on your chest for such a short time. Take advantage of every moment of that.

I would honestly never want to deal with passing my baby around to that many people, having that many people ask to hold baby, that many people getting in baby’s face, having to make that many people use hand sanitizer, telling that many people to not kiss baby (people have less common sense than you’d think and unfortunately you will probably be surprised). It was nice getting to stagger visitors after I had baby. It’s honestly a lot to be at a gathering after having a baby even if you normally love gatherings. I normally love gatherings and vowed to never have another baby around the holidays after dealing with having a new baby during so many gatherings.

You need to get all the stuff cleaned/assembled before the baby is born. How would having a shower after help you out at all? Seriously, I washed all the clothes, sterilized bottles/pump parts, put together the pack n play (where she slept in our room) in the couple of weeks before my first was born. You can’t do that stuff rig after having a baby.

LOL. Absolutely not. My babies are not here to entertain my family and friends. They will meet my baby when I am ready for them to and I absolutely will not be having a gathering where people pass him/her around. 
Also, this is my third child and the other two were born precovid. No way I would have done it then and no way in hell I’d do it now. People have 0 respect for the postpartum period. 😒

Before makes way more sense. If you were to wait for after you would probably want to wait a month or two. When baby is brand new, and you are still recovering, you're not going to feel like going to a party and passing baby around. And if it's month or two later well that's it. Like people said, you are going to need stuff right away. Do it beforehand. You can always tell people that maybe after baby is born you will do a " Sip & see" which is supposed to be a little party sometime after baby is born so people get to see the new baby. You can always see after baby is born how you feel about that, and how The Cove at situation is by then

I would have a panic attack having so many people around my newborn baby, wanting to touch and hold it etc. even score the pandemic I didnt want people potentially spreading sickness to my baby. definitely better to have it before in my opinion.

Definitely before, even if it wasn't during a pandemic, you wouldn't want to have too many people around new baby, unless it was strictly hands off, no passing around.

I've seen both done. Some people want to wait until afterwards for whatever reason. A lot of people prefer before since it gives them time to make sure they have everything for baby. I really wouldn't wait until after since the virus is still raging. Were honestly planning on a virtual one, and maybe a small one after baby is here just so I can see a few people who we don't see very often
