Bleeding on depo?? Why???

So I’ve been on the depo shot for like 4 years now and I haven’t had a period in over a year yet for some reason I am bleeding in between my last and next shot. It’s not brown like old blood but red like fresh new blood and I have cramps and all any advice wth do I do to make it stop?

That’s completely normal with progestin only methods like depo. Bleeding or spotting can literally happen at any given time, that’s part of the irregular bleeding side effect of progestin only methods. If ur able to use estrogen, ur doctor may prescribe a low dose combination birth control pill to take briefly to try & help lessen or stop the bleeding. Some doctors will also try mini pills if need be, but there’s less chances of it helping since those are progestin only as well. Otherwise, u just have to let ur body do it’s thing. Also, it’s really not recommended to be on depo longer than 2 years due to it’s possible long-lasting side effects, especially the possibility of bone density loss.

When I was on it I bleed a lot. And only took it 1 1/2 years. After stopping it took me 8-9 years to get pregnant.
