Went in to be induced at 6am, January 29th at 38 weeks due to gestational hypertension and gestational diabetes. I was 1cm dilated but cervix still high and thick. Dr. Caywood got there 745ish and we went over the foley ballon insertion. She inserted it at 8am. Let me tell you... OUCH! We started pitocin about an hour later and upped it by two every 45ish minutes. The foley fell out about 2.5- 3 hours later— so around 11amish and i was 4-5cm.. more like 4.5cm. Pitocin was up to 10 at NOONish. Contractions were pretty strong and regular. Around 1:08PM contractions kind of fizzled— came and went. At 2:56PM Dr. Caywood broke my water — I was 5cm, 75% effaced, and baby boy was at a -2 station. Baby boy started having some decels during contractions just like his sister Saylor (first VBAC) did during labor.. Contractions were steady and stayed steady sometimes spacing out from every 2 minutes to 4.. I was stuck at 5cm for a LONG time. With the decels Dr. Caywood opted for internal fetal monitoring to see how strong my contractions really were and to watch baby closer. As she did this I was in so much pain! I waited as long as I could for an epidural.. definitely the worst pain I’ve ever felt in my life... and this has been the hardest labor out of my 4 babies. I opted for the epidural at 6:00 and was administered it at 6:45PM. I was in tears and yelling in pain during contractions. Tried my hardest to just breathe through them. I stayed stalled at 5cm for a couple more hours.. baby continued to decel during contractions.. Dr. Caywood did an amnio infusion to cushion baby in case there was a cord issue. At this point I was so exhausted, nauseous, and shivering from working so hard all day I would literally fall asleep and snore. At 9:30PM I stated feeling pressure finally after laying on my right side— baby liked right side better— did not decel as much and I had the peanut ball between my legs. I was checked and I was finally 8cm and Maverick was at a 0 station— so he was officially on his way! Finally!! This induction had been torture up to this point and I was getting nervous about an outcome I didn’t want.. (my doctor never ONCE mentioned a RCS but it was in the back of my mind). At 10:30PM I felt even more pressure!! We were now at a 9 and baby was at +2 station.. he was coming!! The nurse checked me around 11PM and I was 9.5 and had a tiny cervical lip on my right side.. we got around it tho! At 11:30PM nurse had me start pushing during contractions.. pushed through two contractions (maybe it was one, I was out of it!) and she had me STOP because he was crowning and she had to get Dr. Caywood— whom at this point was with me the entire day and night to support my VBAC just as she was with my first VBAC.. I know that’s policy but she never rushed me once— she’s pretty amazing! Dr. Caywood gowned up and I resumed pushing.. pushed through two counts of 10 and baby Maverick came flying out! He had the cord wrapped all around his body so that explained the decels during contractions. He swallowed a lot of fluid because he came out so fast but is just absolutely perfect and healthy! Dr. Caywood said “oh he’s not big at all!!” We were expecting him to be 8#12oz at 38 weeks gestation— he was 7#3oz and 19”!! A little peanut! I had a first degree tear and one stitch.
