Not taking prenatal vitamins?

Is it dangerous. Ive never  taken them and im 16 weeks 😭

Is there a reason why you haven’t taken them? Not taking folic acid while pregnant can cause problems with your baby. Have you seen a doctor yet?

Folic acid is important in the first 12 weeks of pregnancy to prevent spinal abnormalities in the baby. But that doesn't mean just because you haven't taken it, there are going to be problems. Your anomaly scan will be able to determine if there are problems.

Folic acid is really, really important in the early stages of pregnancy as if help prevent things like spina bifida. The other stuff in prenatals is more to help you make sure you have everything you need as baby is obviously taking some of it so you need more. I never taken prenatals in any of my pregnancies though, I tried but I just kept throwing up everytime I took them so it was pointless. I did make sure I was taking folic acid though because it is so important for those first 12 weeks of growth and development.

It’s ideal for you to take them your whole pregnancy, but it’s not always possible. I couldn’t take them. They made me incredibly sick. I tried numerous brands and i still couldn’t find one. My doctor advised I stop taking them and supplement things into my diet. I had a lot of smoothies and shakes with added vegetables. I added spinach to just about every meal. my baby was born perfectly healthy.

Folic acid/folate is the main reason to take prenatal vitamins, some people skip it and their babies are fine, but taking folic acid can decrease the risk of the baby having neural tube defects by like 70%.

I can’t take prenatals, I’ve tried multiple brands and kinds.. my DR told me I could do flinstone vitamins so that’s what I do and I have calcium chews as well. I try hard to include veggies/fruit into my diet and just listen to my body. On my second pregnancy now. couldn’t take even flinstone vitamins with my first and she came out healthy and is a fabulous lil 11 year old now! 
Ask your DR if flinstone chews or gummies are ok with added supplements ( calcium chews, iron drops etc )

Unless your diet is superb & you eat very nutrient dense foods consistently, it’s best to take them if your body accepts them. There’s millions of women around the world that don’t have access to prenatal vitamins & plenty of children come into this world just fine. 
Do what’s best for your child if you are in the position to do so.

I didn’t take them very much with my 2 😴 I always forgot. I didn’t worry though.
