Corticosteroids at 38-39 weeks?
Im hoping someone knows a little more than i do on this subject.
I was diagnosed with GD in my second trimester, i failed by 1 number. I have been able to manage my GD by diet and have not had a single high glucose number. My diet has barely changed since before pregnancy. Ive lost 16lbs this pregnancy so far so im not gaining any weight at all.
I went for my 35 week appointment today and my doctor is possibly wanting to induced at 38-39 weeks depending on this next growth scan. Baby has been measuring perfect (60th percentile) so unless she has grown very large in 4 weeks, i dont see why id need induced any earlier than 39 weeks if at all.
She also told me to get the corticosteroid injections to help babys lungs mature. She said due to GD, babys lungs usually take a little longer to develop.
I dont see why this is necessary though because my sugars have been perfect, if not on the lower side. Ive also talked to a friend who has had GD with her 3 babys and has delivered them earlier than 38 weeks and never got the steroid shots and all of her babys lungs were perfect.
Ive read on the corticosteroid injections and later in pregnancy can cause late term mental health issues in children.
Has anyone else heard of this or has had their doctor recommend the same thing? Im leaning towards telling them im not getting the injections because it just doea not seem necessary to me and i dont want to give my baby unnecessary steroids. If i was delivering at 34-36 weeks id understand more but not full term.
