Pain relief?

I know that epidural is the most common form of pain relief, but are there others? I’ve been seeing posts of women saying that they used nitrous oxide. Has anyone used nitrous oxide during a vaginal birth or was it offered to you, and if so, what were the results?

There are lots of things to help reduce/relieve pain. We plan on using homeopathic remedies, essential oils, TENS unit, hydrotherapy, and massage, along with utilizing a birth ball & positional changes.

Nitrous oxide is what people refer to as “gas and air”, it’s widely available and almost always offered or told you can have it when needed. There’s also an injection called pethidine, obviously an epidural too, or you can bring and use a TENS machine. If you look it up you’ll find a whole list with pros and cons of each and you could ask your hospital which methods they have available :)

I used it. Personally I didn’t like it. They say that it isn’t so much used to reduce pain, just take the edge off. But it just made me feel drunk and kind of sick.
