When does labor start ?

When does labor “technically” start?
Is it when your water breaks and have strong, active contractions or when you’re induced?
I was induced Wednesday afternoon at 4:00 and Thursday and Friday I was on the monitor and it was showing contractions 3-5 min apart but I didn’t feel any of them.  
Saturday morning at 3:22a my water broke and my contractions were then noticeable and painful (1-2 min apart)
I started pushing at 8:02a and at 8:53a my baby was born (pushed for 51 min) 
I’m just trying to figure out how “long” I was in labor for

It’s more about when you dilate during contractions. I had contractions 2 minutes apart for two days that weren’t painful. They even saw them and kept checking to make sure I wasn’t dilating. Once they saw I had progression in dilation they said I was in labor.

There are three stages of labor: early, active and transitional. 
Most people won’t know when their are in or when early labor started. Most people know they are in labor once they are in active labor.

Everyone considers it different.  I consider it, and think it should be from either 1. The time you are induced 2. Your water breaks or 3.  When you have your first contraction.  Whichever comes first.

With mine it was when the contractions were strong and 3-5 mins apart. 
I started having contractions at 3am but the hospital didn’t mark me as officially in labour until 9am.

Water breaks normally and contractions are about 5 minutes apart.
