Anyone’s baby moving hands/arms a lot? Like my 6 month old is doing the “give me” gesture with his hands a lot now. Ive noticed this about a week now.

I would say baby is entirely too young to say that type of thing is a sign of autism. Babies tend to do things like that because they are just realizing they CAN! Like babies will open and close their hands while staring at them because they are like, “what the heck? I can do THIS?!” Some young babies will flap their hands which is a sign of autism in toddlers, but not in infants. I wouldn’t worry about it!

My son always moves his legs, like he kicks one leg a lot whenever he’s excited or energetic which is a lot of times! Idk maybe they are just exploring and expressing themselves as they learn to move their body in different ways. My friend actually told me her son was doing a similar motion with his hand that you’re talking about and her pediatrician told her it’s normal.

He is higher risk bc he has a sibling with autism but I wouldn’t be worried just based on the hand movements themselves. Autism is diagnosed by lack of social interaction. Communication delays etc. I’m sure you know all about it. If your LO is doing the repetitive hand movements but seems social, interacts with you, smiles, makes eye contact, is engaged, is asking you for help/ bossing you around, making demands, responding to name or other subtle social cues then you’re fine. Although I do know that they have observation programs that monitor the growth and development of babies with siblings who have autism. They take tons of data from higher risk babies (sibling with autism) and see if there are other subtle cues besides being non verbal that can be used to officially diagnose autism prior to 2 years of age. You can always ask his Ped or look online? Not sure how that works. Good luck and I’m sure all is fine. 🤗
