Insurance Issues

I’m currently 13 weeks pregnant, and I’ve been trying to find an OBGYN that’ll take my insurance since I was 4 weeks pregnant.

I went to my PCP, and I asked her for a reference, hoping she would give me a list of doctors like I’ve had done for me in the past under different insurances. She didn’t. All she did was give me a literal reference with no doctors to call.

I also called my insurance. They gave me a long list of OBGYN’s who are SUPPOSED to take my insurance, but every office I’ve called within 30 minutes of where I live doesn’t accept it.

On my own, I’ve called many places. I found a center, that I went to, but it was very-lowly rated, and they treated me like they just wanted to get the appointment over with. The doctor was dismissive of my concerns, and she talked to me like I was stupid.

I have no idea what to do.

Has anyone else had this issue? And what did you end up doing?

UPDATE:

I wasn’t ignoring your questions. Apologies.

It IS a government program unfortunately. I lost my job and my insurance in November, right before I found out I was pregnant in December.

Now, my husband and I are relying on one source of income (insurance not included) which has really put a strain on us because just our rent on it’s own is $1600.

I found out I was pregnant at four weeks, so I immediately started applying for insurance through the marketplace because there was no way I would be able to afford prenatal care without it, but all of the offers were crap, to be honest. Most of them had $8,000 deductibles that you had to pay before you could benefit at all from the plans. And the only one that wasn’t like that was $400 a month with $75 co-pays. Everyone I spoke to said I would be stupid if I enrolled in it, especially since we can barely afford the bills we have now.

So I humbled myself and tried to apply for Medicaid. (There’s nothing wrong with Medicaid before anyone gets upset, but I grew up on it, and the last thing I wanted as an adult was to ever have to rely on government help again, you know?)

I was actually found ineligible at first, and I had to pretty much fight with Medicaid until I found somebody who informed me that I could add my living expenses vs my income. Once I did that, I was pretty much immediately accepted because our expenses were originally based on two separate incomes, and we’re honestly barely making it at this point.

The issue is that I live in a big city, and nobody here takes Medicaid. I have literally been calling around since 4 weeks, and I’m going a little crazy.

My PCP and the insurance company were no help at all, and I honestly am probably going to have to continue seeing the people at the center I went to, but that scares me because they clearly don’t care at all, and I’ve miscarried before which they’re well aware of.

I wish I could go further in depth as to how I was treated when I went there, but that would lengthen this even more.

I’ve considered trying to find a job, and I’ve been looking. I just haven’t had much luck lately. I figured that not only would it bring in another stream of income, but it would also potentially offer better insurance. The only issue is that it would take at least 30 days in my area, usually more like 90, before I could use it, and I’m already 13 weeks.

Medicaid would send me packing the second I informed them I was making extra money though, so I have no clue what I should do.
