Can I schedule an induction with my first baby?

So, my boy is measuring HUGE and I really don’t want to go past 40 weeks. I’m currently 33 and he’s already over 5lbs. I want to talk to my OB about scheduling an induction around 37-38 weeks but I’m afraid they won’t let me because it’s my first. Has anyone been able to schedule an induction with their first baby? I’m not due until 4/3 but to be honest I’m miserable and not knowing when he’ll come does make me anxious. Any tips?

My doc would not schedule an induction earlier then 39 weeks unless it was medically necessary and I think being a big baby doesn’t qualify. However, I don’t know if all doctors are this way or just mine specifically, I know they just want them to bake as long as possible. I know you are miserable but eventually the day comes and baby is here. I remember thinking, my god, I can’t go on another day, but I somehow made it.... You got this!!

Not gonna lie induced labor is 10x worse than natural labor,  but if baby is that big you can mention it to your doctor. My son was born at 36wks via emergency c-section and was 7lbs but they wanted to do c-section anyway at 39wks bc he was breech and big.

I told my doctor I did not want to go past 40 weeks so I had a scheduled induction for 40 weeks exactly if baby didn't show before then...my baby was born on his during date

You can ask about an elective induction but there is no way they would do it at 37-38w unless they thought necessary. I had an elective induction at 39w2d. The earliest my hospital would allow is an induction at 39w.

If it’s needed they will tell you.if they don’t tell you it’s not needed this they won’t induce you at 37 weeks for no reason

Depends on your doctor and hospital. Some will. Some won't.
The doctor i used for my first didn't do elective inductions at all. Either there was a medical reason or you had to wait. One of the other hospitals in town would start doing inductions at 36 weeks and 5 days. The doctor I used for my second did elective inductions starting at 39 weeks. It just really depends.
That said, I wouldn't push for an induction based on size alone. Ultrasounds and palpations aren't super accurate, so baby may not be as big as they're estimating.

Most doctors won't schedule an elective induction until you're at least 39 weeks (baby measuring big wouldn't qualify as an emergency requiring an earlier induction), but it completsly depends on your provider so just ask! But a word of encouragement, size estimates during pregnancy can be off by up to 1.5 pounds and shouldn't be relied upon for pde-determining the need for an induction or c-section. My first was measuting large my whole pregnancy and was born perfectly normal size at 40 weeks (7lbs 10oz, 19.5 in). My second was measuring right on track and was born larger than any of us expected at 39 weeks (8lbs 11oz, 20.5 in). I was induced for both labors (only needed the balloon catheter, no other interventions for the 2nd) and in my experience induction was ROUGH.

I didnt need a medical reason to be induced. I chose induction and have no regrets. It was quick asf, and went smoothly.

So with my daughter I had to have an induction because I was a week later and not dilating so I can't know about scheduling early with your first. The best thing you can do is bring it up and the worst they can say is no. I also know for some women they will schedule inductions if the baby is measuring to big. Plus I've heard not to trust guesstimated weights because its actually really hard to tell. I also plan to ask for an induction this time around if my daughter doesn't come on my due date because an extra week is the worst
