Castor oil!?

My midwife recommended castor oil to me the other day, I’m 39 weeks today. 
I’ve heard it’s dangerous for the baby, is this true?? I’m super conflicted

I've heard it can make the baby poop in your uterus as well and girl thats a complete NO NO. My son pooped in my uterus due to low amniotic fluids. Not only did he swallow his own poop but the infection that it gave me almost killed me and him too.The hospital sent me home with my waters breaking. So no its definitely not worth the risk love. Baby will come when ready.

Yeah don’t do that. Baby requires full 40 weeks to grow so no need to rush it along. What I did do at 40w1d was eat a whole pineapple and have a homemade ginger tea. I went into labor at 1:10am on 40w2d. Can’t say for sure that’s what did it but I was already 5cm dilated when I got to hospital 💁🏻‍♀️

Very dangerous. Do not do that. It's too late to get a new midwife but i wouldnt take any advice if thats what shes reccomending...
It can cause the baby to poop...and if the baby poops while in the womb well thats very serious.

Castor oil can be dangerous which is why you shouldn't do it. My daughter pooped in the womb and we found out once my water broke (no I didn't use castor oil) but the point is once that happens you can only go so long in labor before baby needs to get out. Pitocin is not fun. Having to delay the epidural as long as possible or risk a c-section is not fun. Having the baby whisked away to the nicu for examination right after birth is not fun. Thankfully my girl was fine but I can only imagine how not fun it would have been if she did have an infection or if I had one as well

Do not do it on your own. If your midwife thinks it helps, then let her be there all the time and do it at the hospital or birthing centre che works in.
Yes castor oil can bring on labor. But it is dangerous enough to mesa with alone.
As others said, it causes muscles relax, that is what loosens your cervix, but it also causes a diarrea (a bad one most likely), it works the same way on baby. And if baby poops inside, then it is life threatning. Then the baby needs to be gotten out asap. That is why doctors always tell you to turn to a hospital asap, if waters broke and they were dark or green.
