25mm Follicle?! Thoughts?

This was my first round on Femara/ letrozole. I went for an US on cd 13 and had a 25mm follicle and 9 mm lining. They acted like that was awesome. I asked about a trigger shot and she said I shouldn’t need one. After I got home, I got on Dr Google and saw that follicles that big are often overripe and too mature. Then I didn’t get my LH surge until yesterday so it’s even bigger. I’m crushed. This was our last cycle for who knows how long because my husband is fixing to have extensive surgery. Has anybody had experiences with such large follicles??? Please tell me I’m overreacting.

There is differences on follicle sizes for timed intercourse IUI and IVF. Follicles are naturally ovulated at bigger sizes and the body decides when to trigger the LH surge. This is not too big for naturally ovulating follicle. In IVF they need 3 above 18 mm for trigger with hope they become 22 mm by collection time.  If it was anything above 27 mm I will be worried for non IVF cycle for being overripe. Again the body knows when to trigger LH surge. There is no RE and nurses controlling this process. The hormonal feedback goes back and forth between ovary and brain. This can only go south due to serious hormonal imbalance. Nobody knows from what size follicle I came from but here I am.

I would be very unhappy as well. There is certainly a decent chance that the egg is over mature. We waited to trigger me until my largest follicle was over that for IVF, but I had a ton of smaller ones behind that. It allowed the smallest ones to grow to mature levels, so the possible loss was worth it. I had a long discussion with my RE about it because I was so freaked out. Sorry lady. I hope you get lucky and that egg works out!
