What do you think of the Mayor in TX resigning after Facebook post?

I think it was the right thing to do, not just because of the post but because the city of Colorado TX (where he is mayor), and many other cities in TX are in crisis and need leadership right now.
 His family never should have been threatened over this.

Obviously I don’t support threats, but that was an absolutely horrible thing to post. I’m disappointed but not surprised honestly. Resigning was the only acceptable option.

truly want is the point in paying taxes if politicians are going to make the argument that “the government doesn’t owe you anything”?
especially in cases where people are in desperate situations, and there have been confirmed deaths.

Is this dude serious? People/families are literally freezing to death in their homes. 
This isn’t a normal day to day “hand out” - extreme weather has put people in crisis where they cannot or do not have quick available resources to simply “figure it out”. 
Not exactly comparable because it was nowhere near as severe- but 2 days after we moved into our new home in the very hot heat of the summer- we got hit with a storm that knocked out our power- so no AC. We have pets and aren’t those trashbags who would ever leave them behind and we called every pet friendly hotel within a 50 mile radius - no vacancy. We had no family we could stay with due to our animals (my dog is not dog friendly and they all have dogs). Luckily after 2 days and waiting at Home Depot both mornings as they opened- we got our hands on a generator. But point is - had this been so severe our home wouldn’t have been livable-we would have been totally screwed and would have needed some type of help. 
Can you imagine voting for someone who then tells you that it’s basically natural selection when you need help??

I am reading through the white comment again and all I see is. "Boohoo. I said awful things and now I am being held accountable for my actions. And that's unfair. Boohoo my wife defended my disgusting comments and now she is being held accountable for her actions. I can believe this could happen to someone of privilege like me."

Oh god, I am not reading that. It’s kinda blurry. Or maybe it’s my eyes. 
Maybe Cuomo should take resignation notes from this guy?

It was right to resign because it was unprofessional and unproductive and not representational if a person who is a community leader in his position that DOES have an obligation to identifying solutions for the people he was elected to serve. If people should be as completely self sufficient as he suggested then they certainly wouldn’t need elected people like him.
I don’t think it is right when a person’s family is threatened or if it is true that his wife’s career was impacted solely beyond his statements. I can’t say I know any more about this then what the post shares though to say what she may have done to warrant being fired, or what her job was.

I can see what he was saying. There are limited resources to help people. If you can work and provide for yourself, you should. Save the resources for those that truly need them. 
I do however think it was a bit harsh, seeing as Texas is not known for harsh freezing winters. It is an unusual situation for all. Including those that can usually provide for themselves. 
I also think threatening him and his family and getting his wife fired were WAY out of line. Nothing he said warranted that.
