How many IUIs before IVF?

I am on my 4th IUI cycle, with a review call with my Dr tomorrow. I’m nervous. We have unexplained fertility. I am curious at how many IUI cycles your doctors recommend before moving onto IVF? I never saw myself in this position, and makes me sad the Dr might say it’s time for IVF.

I think too many people get swindled into IUI with abysmal chances. The likelihood of success peaks at 3 cycles. Unexplained is such a toss up, unfortunately. I told my doctor we were moving on after two (MFI) and he said “yeah, I would, too”. Going into IVF is almost a breath of fresh air because your chances are so much higher.

It took me 5 IUIs to get pregnant with my first. I was so afraid of IVF that I kept saying, maybe one more IUI. I did 5 more IUIs trying to conceive baby #2 and they all failed, and I had to move on to IVF anyways. Looking back, I regret all the time and money wasted on IUIs. If I could do it over, I wouldn't do any more than 3 IUIs. I got pregnant on my first IVF transfer, and it was not nearly as scary as I thought it'd be.

We did three medicated IUI’s before moving on to IVF.

I had 11 iui cycles all together. I conceived my daughter on the 5th cycle and then tried 6 more ttc a second child. None of them worked and now I’m doing ivf. I was just so scared and overwhelmed by the ivf process I tried to avoid it, but now that I’ve started (had my egg retrieval, no transfer yet). It’s not as scary as I made it out to be in my head. I wish I had moved on sooner.

We had 4 IUIs altogether. First 3 were normal. The 4th one was suppose to be IVF but I didn’t respond well enough to the meds and instead of letting the cycle go to east we converted to IUI. I had only 1 tube at that point. The IUI worked but unfortunately we had an ectopic and miscarriage resulted from that. The tube I had left had now had 2 ectopics on it so it was removed and now we can only do IVF. Good luck!

We did 3 Unmedicated rounds then 3 medicated and wish we had switched sooner as we wasted so much time and potential good eggs.  For us It was unexplained infertility with our first.  By the time we started for our 2nd it was now DOR and endometriosis all from going thru fertility for a year.
