Can my husband get fired?

Update: My husband of course kept his employer well informed ahead of time and did not call out last second or just not show up 
Can my husband get fired if he had to miss work to watch my son while I had to go to labor and delivery overnight and didn’t get home in time for him to make it to work the next day? His employer is threatening it. Due to covid I can’t bring any visitors including my son with me, even without covid it’s not realistic to bring an 11 month old to the ER overnight while I’m on paid meds and can’t watch him regardless. Just curious if anyone has any opinions!/

No, he cannot. Family and medical leave act states:
"Under the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA), many new fathers have the ability to take leave from work to care for a newborn, adopted, or injured child, yet less than 22 percent do so, perhaps out of ignorance of their fathers' rights and the FMLA. The FMLA allows eligible employees to take 12 weeks of unpaid leave when a child is born, adopted or becomes ill, or when a pregnancy or illness requires a worker to care for his or her spouse. Though leave is unpaid, employers are required to continue your employee health care coverage during this period."

So take your facts from the department of labor website, not all employers are covered by fmla, so if this like a mom n pop construction company with like 30 people, sorry he’s screwed but his boss is a jerk anyways.

Second is a fact sheet regarding caring for a spouse with a serious medical condition. You were hospitalized so that is automatically going to fall under serious condition. If your husband isn’t paying attention when he files and tries to claim fmla time under paternity leave it will be denied because that is not accessible until labor. BUT caring for a spouse is. Pardon the sloppy mobile highlighter but see parameters defining spouse and having provide care due to spouses serious medical condition causing the inability to fulfill other needs. Aka your in the hospital because its serious, your condition needs to be monitored for Xnumber of hours so your unable to complete the other needs like childcare. He would be covered see below

If he was a no call, no show - they may have grounds under “job abandonment”. Most employers should be understanding though and give a second chance. I’ve had many employees call in 10 minutes after their shift started, but never ever just went straight to firing someone - definitely not my MO, but it’s possible someone else may pull that! Fingers crossed they have more of a heart than that ♥️

Being fired for missing one day seems ridiculous! I would be looking into a lawyer if my job fired me for one day. Even if he was 90 days into the job he shouldn't get fired especially since it's for a circumstance like this.

If you live in a right to work state you can be fired without reason

In the UK, you could sue the company and have that manager fired for even implying he would be fired. Especially due to the nature of the absence. 
I'm not sure where you are, but the laws are different for every country. Maybe read up on the technicalities for your area.
