How do I dry up milk? Help!

Question

I breastfed for about a week and am now choosing not do so at 1.5 weeks post. Called my doctor & she said they don’t offer meds to dry up milk anymore and all I can do is bind my breasts, cold packs and Motrin to help. Anyone have any life savers that helped them? It’s so painful right now I can’t even lift my arms above my head, bend over or hold my kids let alone my newborn to my chest walking around. Anything helps!! TIA!

Do NOT bind your breasts or use a tight sports bra.  It doesn’t shorten the dry up time and can lead to blocked ducts and possibly mastitis.  It’s very outdated info.  You can eat peppermint candies, drink sage tea, and take Benadryl or Sudafed.  I wouldn’t personally take the meds with a newborn though as they’re going to make you really tired and you’re tired enough with a newborn. Cold packs or cabbage leaves to relieve the pain

All I did was ace bandage super tight and 2 sports bras ... took about a week of that. Ahh drying up was worse pain than healing from my csections.

Hand express a little bit so it’s more comfortable. I’ve heard cabbage leaves help to dry you up.

Put cabbage leaves in your bra.
It should help dry them up. 
I would gently hand express little by little in the shower. Just enough to relieve some pressure.

Avoid the hot water from the shower directly on your breasts and hand express a little (just to relieve pressure, but not a lot).
