How accurate are ultrasound weights?

I had a 34 week growth scan because of gd and our little guy only weighs 4lbs 10 oz so is 15th percentile. The dr wasn’t worried unless he was under 10 percentile but aren’t those scans pretty inaccurate anyway? Just curious..

I was induced early due to my daughter measuring big.. she was only 6lbs 🙄 I never believe ultrasound measurements

they are anywhere from 10%- 15% off in either direction. That means baby could be smaller or larger by that percentage range. I was told this by my high risk dr last pregnancy, baby was IUGR so weekly ultrasounds and constant growth measurements. Anyways my last growth scan on him said he was 5lbs 2oz and when he was born the end of that week he was actually 5lbs 14oz. Mine wasn't a big difference but It can be so I wouldn't freak yourself out over it.

For my last two pregnancies I’ve had to have growth ultrasounds every 2 weeks in the 3rd trimester. Every single time the ultrasound tech always started the appointment by saying that the weight estimates can be off by 2 lbs either way. For example with my son last year at my 37 week appointment he was estimating 9 lbs 15 oz and he was born a week later at 8 lbs 11 oz. so try not to stress too much!
