Grief in early pregnancy - does it affect baby?

Leah

I’m 9 weeks pregnant now, and my husband and I are also foster parents. We have been fostering an amazing 10 month old girl for the past month. We just got the VERY unexpected news last night that the agency is removing her from our home and placing her in the care of a family friend. Up until now we have only had news that the parents were unable to be found and everyone had been asking us if we were interested in adoption.

Although we know foster care is usually temporary, we are still devastated. I have been crying non-stop. I am worried about the health of our biological baby. Can my grief affect the baby? Any advice that anyone can give is greatly appreciated.

On top of all of this I’m battling a horrible head cold and having to take medicine which is ALSO making me worried about the health of the baby. I took a 24 Hr Claritin in the morning and 2 Benadryl at night and I didn’t know until the next day that you shouldn’t do that. I’m so worried.
