Anyone from Long Island?

Question

I am going to a black tie wedding at Bethpage this summer and I don’t know what to wear!
It’s black tie, and in July so I feel like I don’t want to wear anything with a dark color but isn’t that what black tie means?
What should I wear to fit in with Long Island style.  I am one of few people coming from upstate NY!

Black tie just means dressier than like a regular jersey or office dress. Like something long or midi length, and you can do sequins, satin or lace etc or just dress it up with sparkly jewelry or heels. The color doesn't matter, just no white or red. Nordstrom rack has great dressy dresses that are affordable.

I might be wrong because I can only comment on the UK, but strictly speaking black tie for women generally means a long dress - ie nothing of cocktail length, but the colour is totally up to you.  Men should wear black tie for sure, and the women go for a long evening dress, although some ladies will wear cocktail dresses and people generally don’t kick up too much fuss.
