Spicy food and pregnancy

Mai • first time mum @ 28 🤍 EDD: 21st Sept. ‘21

I’ve always LOVED spicy food prior to getting pregnant. I used to put Tabasco Scorpion, or chilli flakes / oil on everything savoury. 😅

I’ve been told by my OB to avoid spicy food, ketchup, and vinegar. However, I’ve read that spicy food doesn’t harm the baby so I thought I could still go on “spicing up” my food 😅 To my disappointment, I had terrible acid reflux (discomfort / burning sensation on my upper belly, just beneath the bra line and it tasted really sour + a bit bitter whenever I threw up). 🥺 It was then that I finally understood why my OB tried to warn me.

Is there anyone else here who used to enjoy spicy food, wasn’t able to tolerate it during pregnancy, and was able to get back to it after being pregnant?

UPDATE (1st May 2021):

I’m now 19w2d, have officially joined the bright side of second trimester and am now able to enjoy spicy food once again!! 🎉
