Do people in Texas that are from the south call people babe?

So my boyfriend and I were getting dinner and he needed my hot spot cuz he ran out of data and when I connected him I got his notifications and this girl said “babe”.  He told me that she’s his cousin that’s older and from Texas so that’s just how they talk.... but I’m not from Texas so I don’t know if that’s how they talk. 
Can you guys tell me if that’s how they talk?

I’m from Texas and have never had anyone call me babe besides my husband. I have had other guys call me ma or mama.. but not babe.. I have also lived in numerous other states in the south and visited the north east states most all of them, and almost all the Midwest states..  and I personally haven’t experienced this. I guess I’m the odd one out since others have..
