has anyone else skipped the engagement?

basically, i do not want to be engaged or have a wedding. i would prefer to just elope and that's that. my boyfriend wants a normal wedding though, and i'm willing to go through with that. i absolutely do not want the whole proposal, fancy pictures, and expensive ring thing though. the more time that goes on, the more strongly i feel about this. has anyone else skipped the typical engagement and still had a normal wedding? like we already know we want to be married to each other, so i would rather just skip to the wedding planning.
