Planning to get married without proposal..

My boyfriend and I have been together about 5 years and he never popped the question. He just tells me that we’re getting married in October of next year (2022).

The original plan was to get married at our favorite resort in Cancun but his step mom has stage 4 brain AND lung cancer (she’s had it for like 3 years and you wouldn’t know unless she tells you - she goes to work / drives herself/ all normal things just to give you a better idea)

So we’re worried that if her condition gets worse within the next year and a half that we wouldn’t want her to miss it if she’s unable to travel that far (5 hour flight) So now we’re looking into local venues and MY POINT IS THAT WE’RE making all these plans and I feel like everything is moving smoothly and being very well thought out but my only dilemma is that he still hasn’t proposed and I feel like a weirdo planning a wedding when no one asked me to marry them.

Is this just the modern way of doing things or are my feelings valid for wanting to be proposed to?
