Hidden contact on phone?

So my bf had his phone on the counter next to me and it went off with a text message so I glanced to see who it was and all it said was "hidden contact". Now my mind is going on why he would have a hidden contact?!! Should I bring it up to him or am I just over thinking it. I didn't even know you could do that.

Is it an iPhone? I didn’t know you could do this, unless he has someone in his contacts titled “Hidden Contact.” 
Don’t snoop, but definitely ask him! If he gets sassy about it, just say you’re looking to hide some contacts of your own. 😉

When I had an android and had the settings set to private notifications on lock screen, it showed hidden contact. Even tho it wasn't. I believe it was on my Samsung and LG phone as well

my brother-in-law uses this feature. He has it set up where anytime he gets contact related info, whether it be a call or message, from anyone in his contacts, it comes up as a “hidden contact” for privacy reasons. My brother-in-law has to leave his phone in a shared locker at work so that’s why he uses it. No one gets names if they look at his screen, all they see is hidden contact. I have a similar setting on my phone (iPhone) that I use all the time too. Not because I’m hiding anything, I just feel more comfortable with people not being able to read my convos from looking at my phone screen

My husbands number comes up as “hidden” bc he uses his phone for work and doesn’t want his clients to have his personal number
