Large baby - induction or c-section

Gemma

Hi all,

In the UK here, I had my 32 week growth scan (as high risk) and baby is looking very big in the 97th percentile (they think she's 5 1/2 lbs rather than 3 1/2!).

The consultant has said they may look at inducing me at 39 weeks to help prevent birthing issues. I'm so stressed out because everything around being induced and having a big baby sounds like a nightmare.

Induction is more painful and labour lasts longer. Big baby is more risk of tearing or needing to be cut, more risk of injury to babies shoulders or head and I may end up needing a C-section anyway.

So I'm thinking I should maybe just ask about an elected C-section? I don't know if I'm likely to be approved but given how big baby is at the moment it seems the better option of the two.

I know some people are very much wanting natural birth and no drugs etc which is great for them but Im terrified of the whole thing and this now is sounding like my worse nightmare.
